ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) -- A pole was struck in Elizabeth City, causing power outages and one elementary school to have an early dismissal on Monday morning. A vehicle struck a pole on Roanoke Avenue near PW Moore School, causing damage to either the cracked insulator or a burned-out lightning arrester, according to city officials. As a result, power outages ensued in the area. There is no estimated time for when the lights will be restored. Crews are working to assess and repair the damage. Students at P.W. Moore Elementary School are scheduled to be released at 11:30 a.m. All other ECPPS schools will release at their regular times today. The P.W. Moore 21st Century After-School Program will also be canceled today. Continue to check WAVY.com for updates.
