Superintendent Feagins set to formally address misconduct accusations

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis Shelby County School Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins will give her formal response to the school board trying to terminate her on Monday.
Despite many flurries falling early Monday morning, School Board Member Sable Otey greeted many students at Cordova Elementary for their first day after the winter break.
“Do you think it’s just for show or do you think she is really here to support the kids? Well, she did do a toy drive a couple of weekends ago. So, I won’t say it’s for show but… it’s for show," said parent Shawntae Wilson.
MSCS to discuss terminating Superintendent Feagins contract
While Otey cheered students on, we spoke with parents to get their opinions on Otey’s visit and the board trying to fire Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins.
“I think they need to get it together. It seems unprofessional. They seem unorganized and I think the superintendent is great," said Wilson.
Wilson believes the school board is looking out for themselves.
"They are not setting a good example, even for the children," she said. “I don’t think they are doing anything for the kids."
In December, Otey was just one of the school board members who outlined three accusations of misconduct against Feagins.

Feagins is expected to respond to the allegations on Monday. Her attorney previously called the accusations “weak and vague.”
Local lawmakers who fund the school system have weighed in with a no-confidence vote.
We asked Otey about the situation with the board and Doctor Feagins. She replied stating she will only be talking about why she is at Cordova Elementary.
“All questions regarding that will be deferred to the committee meeting on the 14th. But just looking forward to us collaborating and doing the best thing for the children," said Otey.
The Shelby County Commissioner will meet on Wednesday about their no-confidence vote and potentially holding funds for the new Frasyer school until a resolution is met between the board and the superintendent.
