Tu Tran received the Medal of Valor from President Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland at the White House, for his two water rescues in September 2022 and February 2023. The award recognizes the bravery and heroism displayed during his second water rescue of his career. Sgt. Tran’s actions saved two lives and led to placing water rescue throw bags in every marked cruiser. Sgt. Tran received Mayor’s Award of Excellence from City of Lincoln Government’s Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird, the Carnegie Medal – North America’s highest honor for civilian heroism, the LPD Police Medal of Honor and Life Saving Award. He also attended the 2024 State of the Union as the guest of Nebraska Senators Pete Ricketts and Deb Fischer.
