AUBURN, Ind. (WANE) — After closing all its northeast Indiana locations in 2010, Sonic will return to Auburn once again. Fort Wayne had two Sonic locations, one at Lima Road and another at Maplecrest Road. Both those — along with the locations in Auburn and Van Wert, Ohio — suddenly closed in mid-October 2010. A plan commission application for a new Sonic location was filed with the City of Auburn in early December 2024. The new address will be 1520 Shook Drive, near the upcoming Mike's Carwash, right off I-69. The former Auburn Sonic location sat vacant for years until it was torn down to make way for Salsa Grille. The carhop fast food chain is known for menu items like the "extra-long cheese coneys" and "toaster sandwiches." They also carry a variety of frozen desserts and flavored drinks.
