LAS VEGAS — Having an at-home pizza oven was once solely available to the uber-rich, who could build a brick oven into one of their five backyard kitchens. Then, around the pandemic, after a little less than a decade on the market, Ooni unlocked the functionality and made making your own Neapolitan pizzas in your backyard a reality for the masses.  Now, the space is getting competitive. And competition is good for the consumer. At CES Unveiled, Current Backyard showed off its Model P, a smart pizza oven that is going to take the craft to the next level. It’s coming to the market sometime in the second quarter of 2025, and the brand intends to take on the best-in-class Ooni Volt 12 and Breville Pizzaiolo by leveraging the first smart, Bluetooth- and Wi-Fi-enabled pizza oven. And at $599, it would push them on price as well. We’re often dubious of products requiring an app that doesn’t really need an app. But this one is seriously slick. The app lets you customize your pizza based on your preferences. For example, input how thick it’s going to be, how loaded with toppings it’s going to be and what style you’re going for — and the app can enable the device to cook it for the perfect amount of time.  It also works indoors and out, so apartment dwellers can get in on the craze. It takes just 20 minutes to get hot and retains heat well, too. Current Backyard’s rep also promised that it’s only going to get smarter, as the company can update the firmware over the air without needing to bring in the machine for tuning.  One feature that especially stood out to us here at BestReviews? An option just for cooking frozen pizza. Imagine a world where frozen pizzas actually taste good and are done to perfection. That’s the promise of the future that CES truly represents.
