Arctic Front Brings Freezing Temperatures to Houston
Jan 06, 2025
HOUSTON, Texas (KIAH) -- As an arctic cold front moves through Southeast Texas, Houston is experiencing a significant drop in temperatures, with freeze warnings in effect. The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning until 9AM Monday for the Houston area. This will likely be reissued for Tuesday morning, as the cold weather isn't going anywhere, at least not until the weekend arrives.
As the cold air grips the area, Houston residents could see a rare wintry mix of precipitation, as early as Wednesday morning with a 20% chance up to the northern counties, and again Thursday into Friday with an 80% chance of rain, which may freeze after hitting the ground, depending on the temperatures, which will be close to freezing that night. And while snow accumulation is unlikely, icy patches on bridges and overpasses may develop, leading to potentially hazardous travel conditions.
With freeze warnings already in effect, Houstonians are also reminded to protect plants, pets, and exposed pipes from the cold snap.
