AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Half Price Books store on Parmer Lane will close after 18 years in business in north Austin. A sign outside the store said the business was "unable to agree to terms on a new lease." The store's last day will be Feb. 2. No other Half Price Books stores are impacted. The six other Central Texas stores will stay open in Cedar Park, Round Rock and Austin. Customers can use gift cards and make returns at these stores. "We appreciate all the kind words of support and the passion the community has shown our bookstore," a letter said. "Thank you and we look forward to many more years of reading and recycling together." Local bookstore closures A few other Austin-area bookstores have closed in recent years. Indie bookstore Malvern Books closed in 2022 after about nine years of business in Austin. South Congress Books closed its store Sunday after moving from South Congress to Kerbey Lane in 2023.
