Electric grid upgrade in Henrietta moving forward
Jan 06, 2025
HENRIETTA, N.Y. (WROC) - Plans are finally moving forward to upgrade the electrical capacity of the power grid serving the Town of Henrietta.
A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday with RG&E along with state, town and local government and business leaders.
News 8 has been reporting on this issue for a year now, and as recently as November 2024.
Limitations in the electric grid have held up the Wiregrass development project, resulting in tenants pulling out and putting 1,000 new housing units and 250 jobs potentially on hold, Henrietta Supervisor Steve Schultz previously told our Dan Gross.
The developer of the project, LFS John Street, has also sued RG&E for damages.
RG&E estimated the cost of a new, custom transformer would run about $17 million. New York State Senator Jeremy Cooney, who will be in attendance at Monday's announcement, was working with the town and utility to secure state funding.
