Suspects in 2022 murder of pregnant woman to appear in court

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Two men indicted for the 2022 murder of a pregnant woman are due back in court Monday.
Gary Gromkiewicz and Michael Lambert have been held without bail after pleading not guilty to the murder of Leila Duarte Da Luz.
Authorities say the two, who met in prison, went to Brockton in the early hours of December 21, 2022 to pick up da Luz, who was Gromkiewicz’s ex-girlfriend and pregnant with his child.
Investigators used cell phone location data to track their drive through Rhode Island.
The cell phone data later tracked the three to western Coventry where a fisherman found Da Luz’s body at Car’buncle Pond.
Investigators said her body was found with lacerations on her head, and the medical examiner’s report said that she had water in her lungs, meaning she was alive when she got into the water.
Gromkiewicz and Lambert will reappear in Kent County Court later today for their trial.
