GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Oneida Nation Gate sees hordes of Packers, and visiting teams', fans pour through for each game at Lambeau Field. It is that prime location in Lot 1 that Scott Schwartz sets up his famous Lot 1 Tailgates, and has for the last three decades. “It has grown since then to where I have people who come from across the world," he said. “It’s unusual when we don’t have people from other countries.” 2 fans arrested, 8 ejected during Packers rivalry game with Bears to end regular season Schwartz used to be a bartender and would take three or four guests from the bar to the game with him on Sundays. The tradition grew, and crowds began tailgating with him on gamedays, always in the same corner of Lot 1. “There’s not a lot of people here but my crew is here. We’re here first and early and stay long," he said after 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning. “Treat everybody nice. It’s only a game. Yeah, we want to win, but so do they.” The Pulaski resident has garnered a following; some people travel from several states away to tailgate with him each week, and in addition to international visitors, some have even moved to Wisconsin from other countries because they have fallen in love with the culture. Justin Sipla lives in Iowa City, IA, and moved to the Midwest to be closer to the Packers, and to his best friend Schwartz. “I took that job explicitly so I could come to every Packer game, and that’s kind of when Scott and I partnered up. So this is our 15th season doing this together," Sipla said. “Jack Daniels did a national contest for best tailgate in America and he won that three years in a row.” As a result of the culture that Schwartz has created, he is one of the ten finalists for the Packers 27th Fan of the Year Award. “That’s what I’m most proud of is that Scott really maintains that atmosphere that makes this a sport where fans matter," Sipla said. “We didn’t know each other prior to our shared joy of Packer football and Lot 1 Tailgating. But in the course of getting to know each other and working together, we become family.” Schwartz was honored with the nomination, and now he would like to clinch the title, too. “At first I was thinking I’d be happy if I just made top ten, now I’d like to win too," Schwartz said. “It would be nice to have my name affiliated with some of the names in the Hall of Fame.” Packers lose Love and Watson to injuries, Bears rally for 24-22 win in Green Bay Schwartz says he has received support from around the world from people he has never met, and feels that a win for him will be shared by other tailgating enthusiasts and Packers fans. “It’s quite touching. I’ll see fanbases in Scotland sharing the voting page to get their fanbase to vote for me in Wisconsin. I’ve never been to Europe," he said. “[It would mean] everything being a Packer fan means. And I feel like all the people I tailgate with will feel like I’m in there too because they know I appreciate them all.” Voting ends January 31 at 11:59 p.m.
