Jan 05, 2025
WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- With several inches of snow expected in D.C., a cherished tradition is set to return to the District Monday.
Snow is expected to begin making landfall in the region late Sunday. According to weather forecasts, most of the DC metro area is expected to see 8 to 10 inches of snow.
As a result, snow lovers can gather for a friendly group snowball fight to kick off the winter season. The Washington DC Snowball Fight Association (DCFSA) announced in a social media post that it will host "The Great Meridian Chill Battle of 2025" at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, at Meridian Hill Park in Northwest.

The tradition goes back to Feb. 6, 2010, when the DCFSA held its first mega-event.
The battle is free to attend; however, the DCFSA reminds participants of the following:
Anyone participating does so at their own risk.
Anyone "behaving recklessly" is individually responsible for the consequences.
Do not throw ice or pelt at moving vehicles.
Please follow any instructions of the National Park Police or Metropolitan Police Department.
Dress appropriately for the weather and activity.
Protecting your eyes with goggles is encouraged.
Stay home if you're recovering from a medical condition.
"See you on the battlefield!" said the DCFSA in a Facebook post.
