MADERA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Madera Community Hospital's reopening is once again being pushed back. Madera Community Hospital has been closed since December 2022. "The closure of the hospital has been very detrimental to the health of our community," said Madera County Supervisor Robert Poythress. After closing, the community in Madera was left without an emergency room. The grim reality predicted when Madera’s hospital closes "It's really hit our Medi-Cal population because I believe there is roughly 77% of the population served by the hospital where Medi-Cal recipients." Poythress said over the last two years people have been forced to travel to neighboring counties for medical care. "We are definitely looking forward to the hospital reopening," Poythress said.  Madera Hospital received a $57 million state loan and has since been remodeled. Back in October, the hospital held a job fair with over a thousand applicants. "They've got a number of people that they have that have commitment letters out to and once the hospital before it opens, they have to have the staff, of course." CEO of Madera Community Hospital Steve Stark said in a Facebook post, the biggest struggle has been finding IV solutions after Hurricane Helene damaged one of the country's largest IV solution plants in North Carolina. The plant distributes solutions to healthcare facilities based on their order history. However, Madera Hospital has not ordered IVs in two years. In the post, Stark said the hospital plans to open quickly after it passes a building inspection by the California Department of Health. "It's so incredibly complex, there are so many moving parts that it is, it's not an easy task. We are right on the brink of opening. Hang in there and we'll be there," Poythress said.  The hospital hopes to reopen its doors in early February.
