BLOG: Snow develops Sunday night, rainy Monday
Jan 05, 2025
For the first time in a long time (Since January 29, 2022) we could see accumulating snowfall for our area. While this isn't going to be a big winter storm for the Hampton Roads cities, you have to start somewhere.
There are still areas that could see heavy snow and more than 3". Maily for the Eastern Shore as you'll see the coldest air for the storm system. Lets time it out:
Snow moves in this evening
The snow starts to move in to our area after 7pm tonight. We could see light to moderate snow depending on how much moisture moves in with this initial line. Accumulations should happen quickly where around 1" of snow will stick to the ground. Most of the freeways have been pretreated, but many other roads have not, so take care driving later tonight as there could be slippery spots.
Rain develops Monday
Wamer air with highs in the 40s is what we will see across the Hampton Roads cities tomorrow. That will prevent us from seeing any problems during the day. However, there is still a chance for more snow as the storm moves out.
When storm systems move out, we can sometimes get snow on the back side of them, however the dry cold air usually shuts it down and flurries only occur. If it happens as advertise on Future Trak, another 0.5" of snow is possible.
On Tuesday morning our temperatures will be in the 20s, so any puddles and slush left over will freeze and there could be slippery spots Tuesday morning before the sun comes up and melts those areas. Highs will be locked in the 30s for the majority of the week ahead with lows in the 20s. The long term forecast looks interesting as there is another chance for snow on Saturday.
