LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – After heavy morning and afternoon snow our attention turns to the ice threat for central and eastern Kentucky overnight. The highest threat for ice will be along the I-64 corridor. That is where half an inch of more of ice will be possible. We will likely see the freezing rain threat last through the overnight hours, with the heaviest of the rain tapering off around midnight. Do not let your guard down on the roadways overnight as temperatures as expected to stay below freezing in many spots. Winter Storm Warnings remain in place through the day on Monday through most of central and eastern Kentucky. The only exception remains far southern Kentucky as conditions have warmed up a bit there, leading to mainly plain rain falling in spots. As the morning progresses on Monday we will see snow showers push back into the ABC 36 viewing area. These showers will drop some light accumulation and reduce visibility. If you have to be out on the roads on Monday, be very careful when traveling as these snow showers are occurring. Slick spots will be likely throughout the day. As the snow showers move through, temperatures will be dropping well into the low 20s. You can expect a northwesterly breeze that will make it feel even colder than that. It’s only going to get colder throughout the week. You can expect multiple days well below average with afternoon highs in the teens and 20s and overnight lows in the single digits, possibly below zero. Our eyes are on another wintery weather chance by the end of the week. Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
