Kannapolis Police shoot one person in a vehicle during a traffic stop

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – One person is in the hospital recovering after a traffic stop involving Kannapolis Police escalated to a shooting Saturday night.
It happened around 10:30pm near North Cannon Boulevard and Nance Street. In a brief statement, a spokeswoman for the city says officers pulled over a vehicle because they suspected someone inside had outstanding warrants.
Police say one person shot was shot inside the vehicle and taken to the hospital. The statement did not specify if the driver or a passenger was shot, but we do know there were multiple people were in the car at the time of the shooting.
The statement also says no officers or other “occupants” of the vehicle were injured. We’re still working to learn the condition of the person who was shot.
Authorities say the officers involved are on administrative leave and SBI is investigating.
