High Wind Watch slated for San Diego's mountains, valleys
Jan 05, 2025
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A High Wind Watch is soon to be in effect for a portion of San Diego County with gusty winds expected to impact the region from Tuesday evening through late Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents in the region's mountain and valley areas are being urged to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions, including the possibility of power outages and difficult travel.
The warning comes as northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph in eastern portions of the valleys. The strongest winds, however, are forecast to occur near the foothills of San Diego's mountains. For those in the coastal slopes of the mountain areas, the National Weather Service predicts wind speeds ranging from 30 to 50 mph and gusts potentially reaching 65 mph.
The strongest winds are expected to hit overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning. The high winds could cause significant disruptions, including downed trees and power lines, potentially leading to widespread power outages. Travel may also become challenging, especially for high-profile vehicles, such as trucks and buses, due to the gusty conditions.
Residents in affected areas are advised to monitor the latest weather updates and prepare for the possibility of power outages and unsafe driving conditions. Securing loose outdoor items, such as patio furniture or trash cans, is also recommended to prevent them from being blown away in the event of strong winds.
