TOPEKA (KSNT) - Residents across Northeast Kansas and the Midwest are amidst a strong winter storm with wind speeds up to 30 mph. Intense snow fall has completely covered neighborhood roads, side walks, and driveways. Yesterday, Jan. 4, city spokesman, Daniel Garret, told 27 News that city workers have been treating roads accordingly. "As weather conditions change, our crews are adapting their treatment. As roads are starting to turn wet, crews are spreading salt that is wetted with brine that will act as a bond breaker between the pavement and any potential ice or snow." - Daniel Garret The city is currently working with 24 snow removal trucks. Neighborhoods, however, seem to still not be plowed. The city says unless Topeka receives more than six inches of snow, snowplows will not work residential streets. This is because narrow streets make it difficult for drivers to maneuver plows. For more local news, click here.
