A teen motorcyclist has died at the hospital after being hit and trapped underneath a vehicle on Railroad Avenue and Oak Ridge Drive on Saturday night, according to Sgt. Mark Perkins, spokesman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
L.A. County firefighters were dispatched to the scene at 9:49 p.m. with deputies from the sheriff’s station for a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision, said Supervising Fire Dispatcher Martin Rangel.
When first responders arrived on the scene, they found the pedestrian to be a motorcyclist who was hit and trapped, said Perkins.
He added that no arrest was made at the scene and there was no evidence of the driver being under the influence or recklessly driving.
Rangel said that the patient was transported to the nearest trauma center.
In a phone interview with The Signal, a woman who identified herself as the grandmother of the motorcyclist said she was heartbroken and at loss for words.
She said the motorcyclist was a 14-year-old boy who was riding his dirt bike at the time of the collision.
“He had freedom riding his dirt bike. It’s something that he enjoyed doing,” she said.
A cousin of the motorcyclist described him as “one of the funniest people you would ever meet.” She said he loved to play soccer and video games.
She added that he had recently begun dirt biking again and wanted to focus on the engineering aspect of it.
The grandmother said that he was an older brother and leaves behind three younger siblings, a 6-year-old and twins who were born on Dec. 15.
She said he will be very much missed, and he was deeply loved.
The names of the motorcyclist and relatives are being withheld pending confirmation from the L.A. County Medical Examiner’s office.
