A 38-year-old resident of Norco was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving for allegedly triggering a three-vehicle crash in Riverside that killed a 75-year-old woman, who was behind the wheel of an SUV, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched at 6:30 p.m. Saturday to the crash scene at the intersection of Collett Avenue and Stonewall Drive, said Riverside police Sgt. Tim Jensen.
The 75-year-old woman had slowed her eastbound white 2005 Jeep Liberty on Collett Avenue to make a left turn onto Stonewall Drive, when her Jeep was rear ended by a gray 2014 Toyota Tundra driven by the 38-year-old Norco resident, Jensen said.
“As a result of the initial collision, the Jeep was pushed into oncoming lanes of traffic where it collided head-on with a red 2014 Toyota C-HR, driven by a 70-year-old male resident of Riverside,” he said.
Paramedics dispatched to the crash scene rushed the 75-year-old woman to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.
It was unclear whether the 70-year-old man was injured.
The 38-year-old Norco man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center.
Anyone with any information regarding the crash was urged to call the Riverside Police Department at 951-353-7177 or email Detective Matthew Parrish at [email protected].
