Jerod Mayo fired by the Patriots
Jan 05, 2025
FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) -- The New England Patriots announced on Sunday evening that they have fired head coach Jerod Mayo.
"After the game today, I informed Jerod Mayo that he will not be returning as the head coach of the New England Patriots in 2025," Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft said in a statement. "For me, personally, this was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. I have known Jerod for 17 years."
Mayo's firing comes after the Patriots just finished their final game this season against the Buffalo Bills, which they won 23-16. The team finished the season with a record of 4-13.

Kraft added in his statement that Mayo "earned my respect and admiration as a rookie in 2008 and throughout his career for his play on the field, his leadership in the locker room and the way he conducted himself in our community."
This was Mayo's first and only season as the team's head coach. He also played for the team from 2008 until 2015 as a linebacker.
