We are tracking plenty of cold air and wintry weather. A winter storm is impacting the region this evening into tonight, but the greatest impacts will remain south of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. Periods of snow have arrived to our far southern communities and will continue overnight. The snow will be heavy at times in these areas, while other parts of our area receive very little snowfall. Snow will last through daybreak on Monday before quickly departing.. Winds will increase as the night goes on though, causing some drifting of snow and sending wind chills down into the single digits. Snow continues in Blackford, Grant, and Jay Counties this evening.Snow expands a bit more northward overnight.Snow will be briefly heavy at times. Most snow tapers off by daybreak Monday.Wind chills will generally be in the single digits to start off Monday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 7 PM Sunday through 10 AM Monday for Blackford, Grant, and Jay counties. These counties will receive the highest impacts from this system. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect this evening into Monday morning for our far southern counties. Snow totals will range from 1-3" in the advisory area. Travel along I-69, especially south of our area, will be difficult during this snow event. Even farther down I-69, bigger impacts from this winter storm will be seen with higher snow amounts; Winter Storm Warnings are in place south of our area. Travel to Indianapolis and other cities in southern Indiana is highly discouraged. Amounts of snow decrease dramatically farther north through our area. Up to an inch is possible just south of Fort Wayne and only up to a half an inch is anticipated in the Fort Wayne area. It is possible these areas don't see much accumulation at all and our northern counties will see a dusting of snow, if that. While this is not a big snow event for most of our area, take it easy on the roads, as blowing snow and black ice remain possible overnight. Snowfall totals will be highest in the south and decrease substantially farther north. After this system wraps up on Monday, we'll continue to tap into cold air, with highs in the mid-20s and wind chills only as high as the teens to begin the workweek.
