KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – One person was taken to the hospital after allegedly being shot during a traffic stop in Kannapolis on Saturday night.
The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on North Cannon Boulevard near Nance Street.
Kannapolis police officers conducted a traffic stop and believed that one of the occupants in the vehicle was wanted on outstanding warrants.
During the traffic stop, the occupant was struck by gunfire and was taken to Atrium Hospital – Cabarrus. The police officers and the other occupants were not injured during the incident.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation conducts an investigation into the shooting.
