WEST JEFFERSON, Ohio (WCMH) -- Normally at West Jefferson Hardware, employees are spending their Sundays with family, but when they found out about the heavy incoming snowfall, the manager said they knew it was the right thing to do to open up shop for the community. “Everybody was kind of panicked so we figured it would be a good time to just come in and help everybody out that didn’t get their salt and shovels and sleds and whatever else they needed,” said Matthew Stevers. Residents doing last minute shopping were grateful that they opened their doors. “I was going to have to go all the way into Columbus and I don’t want to leave West Jefferson. I just want to go home and get in my house and stay warm,” said Evelyn Clark, West Jefferson resident. Warming centers, ODOT prep for winter storm Clark came in for furnace filters and fire starters. She said her goal is to stay inside and warm throughout the snowfall. “My husband will probably go out and take care of the driveway and the sidewalks but I’ll keep the fire going,” said Clark. Stevers told NBC4 that their supplies have been flying off the shelves. “We are just about out of snow shovels, we have quite a bit of salt left but luckily we had an oversupply from the last couple of years with the lack of snow,” he said. Employees at West Jefferson are prepared for business to remain steady throughout the next couple of days. “I assume there will be some parents in here looking for some sleds and things to do and then people who were not able to get in here over the weekend will probably want some salt,” said Stevers. He recommended that people at least have a shovel and some ice melt to get through the winter.
