Happy Sunday, DMV! It's a quiet but cold start to our morning so much sure to bundle up before heading out the door. Cold conditions will be the trend as we head through the rest of the day with highs struggling to get out of the 30s. At times it will be breezy making the wind chill values (feel like) temperatures in the 20s. Today will start sunny with clouds rolling in later this afternoon. All attention will turn to tonight into Monday morning. A storm system currently in the Great Plains will move into the DMV this evening sparking up snow across the DMV tonight into Monday. Winter Storm Warnings are in place for the entire DMV that will go into effect tonight and are set to expire early Tuesday morning. As the winter storm moves in tonight, expect to see snow falling across the area starting as early as 7 p.m. in our southern counties and making it to the DC metro area a little after 9 p.m. and northern Maryland a little after midnight. Heavy snow bands will be expected later tonight into the overnight hours. The heavy bands of snow could linger into Monday morning, with snow starting to lighten up late Monday morning into the afternoon hours. During the commute tomorrow areas just south of DC could start to see the switch from snow to freezing rain/sleet. Slick conditions will be a concern during tomorrow morning's commute, so if you do have to leave the house tomorrow make sure to give yourself enough time to get to your destination. DC metro areas could see roughly 6-8" of snow, with ice accumulation up to 0.01". Drier and cold conditions will be seen by Tuesday with highs remaining in the 30s. At times, it will be windy with winds gusting upwards of 35 mph. Cold and dry conditions will continue to be the trend as we head through much of the week.
