ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Crews were called to a five-alarm fire at a warehouse on Hague Street in Rochester Saturday night. The fire was first reported around 9:30 p.m. at 175 Hague Street.
Shortly after arriving to the scene, firefighters declared a second alarm due to the structure’s size. Firefighters entered the building to locate the fire source. Crews assigned to the roof division discovered a hole in the roof with visible flames.
The scene was elevated to a fifth alarm to secure additional resources and establish multiple water supply lines from surrounding streets.
"Severe weather conditions, including high winds and freezing temperatures, significantly challenged firefighting efforts. The strong winds intensified the fire and carried embers toward nearby structures, necessitating the deployment of crews to protect surrounding homes," firefighters said. "As a precaution, residents in homes adjacent to the warehouse were evacuated."
According to the RFD, the frigid temperatures led to equipment freezing and becoming covered in ice, further complicating suppression operations. There was a partial collapse of the roof and an exterior wall due how intense the fire was.
Crews with Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) responded to the scene to disconnect gas and electrical services, which resulted in temporary power outages in the neighborhood as crews worked to put the fire under control.
The fire was brought under control after several hours. No one was injured during the fire. Firefighters are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
