NMSU men improve to 20 in CUSA with huge win over LA Tech

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KTSM) — The New Mexico State men's basketball team dominated Louisiana Tech, 78-48, in a Conference USA game at the Pan American Center on Saturday.

This was a massive win for New Mexico State, as it beat the Conference USA preseason favorite by 30 points in its second league game of the year.

NMSU's Christian Cook scored 19 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. Cook went 5-of-6 from three-point range. Robert Carpenter was also efficient in scoring as well as he scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and 3-of-4 shooting from deep. Peter Filipovity scored 15 points and Zawdie Jackson pitched in 12 points in the contest.

As a team, NMSU shot 56% from the floor. The Aggies made 30-of-54 shots. New Mexico State went 11-of-23 from three, shooting 48%. NMSU set season-highs in both those categories.
NMSU held the Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year, Daniel Botcho, to just two points in the contest. LA Tech was led by Sean Elkinton, who scored 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field.
With the win, New Mexico State improved to 9-6 overall and 2-0 in league play. NMSU will take its 2-0 CUSA record, and five-game winning streak, into its next game against UTEP.
NMSU and UTEP, as of Saturday night, are the only teams that are 2-0 in league play.
NMSU and UTEP will go head-to-head on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Don Haskins Center.
