Jan 04, 2025
(KRON) – The San Francisco Fire Department announced a gas leak has been shut off and evacuation orders have been lifted in the Outer Richmond area on Saturday.
SFFD provided the update shortly after 3:30 p.m. and said residents are okay to return back to their homes. A temporary shelter bus had been provided at 48th Street and Balboa Street for the individuals impacted.
At 11:24 a.m., an accidental strike of a gas line leak near 47th Avenue and Balboa Street prompted evacuations, according to the department.
The department said there were no injuries reported.
SFFD said that Pacific, Gas & Electric had shut off electricity in the area as a precautionary measure, which affected an estimated 2,200 homes. Officials said power should be restored by 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
SFFD added that water customers in the area may experience low or no water pressure because of repairs. Officials advised that "the four-block radius of Balboa and Cabrillo between 47th and 48th Ave. will have traffic delays due to construction crews."
This is a developing story. Stay tuned with KRON4 for updates.
