MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Mid-South is still on track for our cold blast next week, but first we have storms coming our way on Sunday, and there is some potential for them to be severe as well. Expect passing showers Saturday night and early Sunday before a line of storms moves through Sunday afternoon from west to east. This line of storms will have the potential to produce isolated damaging winds, and even a tornado or two, but the highest severe threat will be southwest of the Memphis metro area. Sunday will be mild with highs near 60 until the storms arrive, but once the rain ends Sunday evening temperatures will start tumbling. Weekend storms pave way for freezing temps Gusty northwest winds will drop us into the mid to high 20s by early Monday, but it will feel more like mid to high teens. There is some potential for any spots on the roads that don’t dry overnight Sunday to become slick by sunrise Monday. This issue should not be widespread, but it’s something to keep in mind for your morning commute. With some wraparound moisture as the storm departs, we’ll likely see some flurries or light snow showers Monday morning, but there won’t be any accumulation. Temperatures will be running close to 20 degrees below normal for several days next week with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens/20s. Cold enough that you’ll want to drip your faucets at night to be safe. WREG will be keeping an eye on another potential storm system late next week. Welcome to winter!
