(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — A very dynamic and well-organized system is currently barreling through portions of the Central U.S. Kansas, Colorado's next-door neighbor, is enduring a significant ice storm with blizzard conditions in place too. Notice, however, that Colorado is actually on the back end of this storm system. What that means for the region is that we will be dealing with some frigid cold temperatures, light wind, and some brief snow flurries. Because Southern Colorado is on the back side of the storm, energy and dynamics are less favorable for a higher-impact event. The exception may be some icy conditions - especially near the Colorado and Kansas border. By 9:00 on Saturday (1/4) night, much of El Paso and Pueblo counties may be starting to see some snow reach the ground. Other areas across the region may start to see some light flurries too. Around midnight, snow will likely push further South and East. Las Animas County and portions of the Eastern Plains will start to experience some heavier snow at that time. Well after midnight the far Eastern Plains may see some of the last of the snow as the system pushes further and further away from the Rockies. The Central Mountains will continue to see snow through the night. Come Sunday (1/5) morning the snow is expected to wrap up for just about everyone in the viewing area. Overall little to no accumulations are expected by travel conditions that may be slippery. For Sunday, the main focus for the day will be the temperatures. With breezy conditions overhead, there will be a wind chill. Most spots won't get much warmer than the lower 20s! The best way to deal with wind chill is by layering up.
