CONCORD, N.C – A Concord mother is recovering after accidentally gluing her eyelid shut because she thought her nail glue was her eye drops. It turns out the mistake may be more common than you think. The woman says she was dealing with irritation in her eye because of dry contact lenses. She says she reached for what she thought were eyedrops for some relief and quickly realized she had made a major mistake. “When it hit my eye, it immediately burned, like really bad,” K’netha Faggart said. “It wasn’t until I went to rub it, and when I came back, my finger got stuck on my eye, and that’s when it clicked. I was like, that was nail glue.” Faggart called her daughter to take her to the hospital where she says nurses tried to soothe the burn to no avail. “They were just trying to flush the eye with just water and it just wasn’t doing anything,” Faggart said. Faggart’s daughter documented the scary mistake on Tik Tok where the video now has more than 11 million views. “So many people have commented and said, oh, this happened to me when i was younger. This happened to my brother and i’m like, that’s when i realized that it does happen a lot Poison Control experts say it’s not uncommon for people to make this mistake. Experts say Faggart did the right thing by going to the emergency room. Experts say you should never try to pry your eyelids apart or use another chemical to release the glue. “The retina specialist he was like, make sure you give a PSA,” Faggart said. “He said he’s had five cases in the last month and a half.” Faggart has visited several doctors and they all expect her eye will stay glued shut for another month and a half. She says she was in school working on her Masters degree, but fears this medical episode will delay her schooling. “I haven’t had any peaceful sleep, I have horrible headaches,” Faggart said. “They said that the glue can also be messing with my sinuses.” Faggart says she is unable to drive and do other essential tasks and will also be out of work until further notice. “I’m a nurturer. I’m a foster parent, so I’m used to taking care of people,” Faggart said. “I thank god for my kids and my friends, like, because they literally have to do everything, like, take care of me.” Faggart says she hopes her experience encourages people to pay closer attention to what they put in their eyes. Her daughter set up a GoFundMe account to support her recovery.
