WILLIAMS COUNTY, ND (KXNET) — Williams County Sheriff's Office is encouraging people to start the new year off right, and they say it all starts with being scam aware. Williams County officers say they continue to receive reports of scam calls in the new year. Reports have shown that scammers impersonate law enforcement and claim that the person they're calling has outstanding warrants or has missed jury duty. Authorities say these calls continue to be more sophisticated and life-like, with scammers even using technology to change their caller ID to local numbers. Williams County officers say that scammers often pretend to be government officials or a business you might be familiar with. They say that if the call seems suspicious, you should report it to their non-emergency line at 701-577-7700 immediately.
