ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Habitat for Cats NY, a Western New York nonprofit that specializes in feral cats, is requesting donations in the aftermath of the house explosion on Pullman Avenue in Rochester Friday afternoon.
House explosion on Pullman Ave injures 1, leaves 2 other homes on fire
The homeowner was hospitalized with burns and two other houses in the area caught fire, according to authorities at the scene.
Saturday, Habitat for Cats announced on social media that specialists were in the process of helping to fix and provide care for several indoor and outdoor cats at the home when the explosion happened. Officials with HFC also announced that the homeowner of a nearby home impacted was hospitalized as well in the aftermath, adding that this person was also a caretaker of several community cats.
HFC announced that several cats have been recovered from the area. Many of them aren't used to the cold weather and are in need of medical attention, officials stated.
"What we need most for this dire situation are shelters that we can place in a different, close by locations that are safe. If you can make or purchase any, we would be so appreciative. We also will need funds to purchase supplies to create makeshift coverings for the shelters including tarps, wood and other building supplies. We will need to take over feeding these cats immediately, giving fresh water and food on a regular basis to determine how many cats are in need. So far, we counted over 20 and we know there are more. There are an additional 35-50 cats that come to eat that are in the area. This is a huge amount of food to feed daily," HFC announced.
