RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- All eyes on late Sunday into early Monday, we continue to monitor the upcoming winter storm, as we are under a VIPIR ALERT for winter weather impacts for Central Virginia. More on that in a moment. Tonight, into Sunday morning will feature clear skies and cold overnight temperatures, dropping back down to near 20 degrees in Metro Richmond, which means many locations will be down into the teens by Sunday morning. Our Sunday starts off sunny and cold in the morning, followed by increasing clouds throughout the day as our winter storm approaches us from the west of Central Virginia. Highs on Sunday afternoon will top out around 40 degrees. Now, onto the winter storm. Flurries and/or light snow will begin approximately around 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. tomorrow across the viewing area, but some of this initial precipitation will be evaporating as it’ll be quite dry in the atmosphere as this storm system starts. We will see light to moderate snow breaking out around 7 p.m. and afterwards tomorrow late evening. Sunday night into Monday morning will feature from time to time, mixed precipitation as well, which of course will cut down on snowfall accumulations for some locations across Central Virginia heading into our Monday. Overall, we are looking at approximately 3 to 6 inches of snowfall for most of Metro Richmond, down to the Tri-Cities from this upcoming winter storm. Wraparound snow is possible late on Monday, as the storm system pushes out of the Mid-Atlantic Region. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will all be very chilly weather days with mostly sunny skies and breezy conditions from time to time. Late next week into early next weekend, we are looking at the potential of another winter storm affecting the viewing area late next Friday night into next Saturday. Outside of that, we will see well below-average temperatures for the next several days.
