One neighbor named Taraji told WREG that she was sitting in her room when she heard dozens of shots, initially thinking they were fireworks going off outside her home.
"I think it was 50 (shots) that I heard in my room," she said.
Her brother Dajuan, quickly ushered his younger siblings to safety and urged them to take cover.
"I'm a security guard, so my first thought was my family," he said. "The shots weren't at us, so we're listening to see if anything hit the house."
Horn Lake Police say this is still an active investigation and investigators are still on the scene attempting to gather more details from witnesses and family members about what might have led to the shooting.
At this time, the juvenile's name has not been released.
