UPDATE: After City Manager Brian Platt announced that the runways at KCI will reopen shortly, Mayor Lucas announced that crews have treated surfaces and the runways are back open. KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City International Airport announced this afternoon that the airfield is closed due to the severe weather. KCI made the announcement via X saying: "Saturday 2:50pm Update - Due to rapid ice accumulation, the airfield at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) is currently closed to flight operations. Check with your airline for specific flight information. Additional status updates to follow." The announcement comes just after a blizzard warning was issued for multiple counties across the metro. Additionally, reports were made that KCI's runway truck is broken down. The truck, which is used to treat the runway during winter weather, is the only one at KCI. This is an ongoing situation, FOX4 will provide updates as they're made available.
