Richmond Police Department investigating homicide

RICHMOND, Ind. -- Police are investigating after a man was killed in Richmond on Friday.
According to the Richmond Police Department, officers responded to an unwanted person call around 11:55 p.m., in the 600 block of South "P" Street. Upon arrival at the scene, police found a bleeding and unconscious man lying in the street. The man was later identified as 39-year-old Douglas D. Jones.
Richmond Fire Department medics provided aid to Jones and transported him to Reid Hospital. Officials planned to transfer Jones from Reid Hospital to Miami Valley Hospital for further treatment. Police confirmed that Jones died before he was transferred.
Per RPD, detectives believe Jones sustained a stab wound during a physical altercation with another person.
Police believe the stabbing is an isolated incident that does not pose a larger threat to the community. RPD is still investigating the stabbing and urges residents with information on it to call the RPD Criminal Investigation Unit at (765) 983-7247 and ask to speak with Captain Andy Jury.
