One dead following early morning New Orleans East fire

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A man is dead following a fire that happened in the New Orleans East area in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan 4.
According to the New Orleans Fire Department, the fire, which happened at 4900 Flake Ave., was reported at 2:49 a.m., with fire fighters were on scene by 2:55 a.m.
On scene, personnel found a small, one-story home, with flames already through the roof. Neighbors said the 67-year-old homeowner, who lived alone, was unaccounted for.

After searching the home and suppressing the fire, the man was found dead in the front-right corner of the home.
Neighbors reportedly heard what sounded like an explosion before going outside to find their neighbor's house engulfed in fire. Seven NOFD units and 21 Fire Operations personnel were used to bring the fire under control by 3:20 a.m.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
