LINCOLN–(KFOR Jan. 4) The Lincoln Police Department Friday released the results of a specialized traffic enforcement project that focused on impaired drivers. The effort was part of the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign and was conducted throughout Lincoln from December l through 31. Additional officers worked overtime during the nights and weekends to conduct high visibility traffic enforcement to help deter impaired driving. Officers took a zero­ tolerance approach to drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol, while also watching for other traffic and safety violations. The enforcement campaign was made possible by a grant from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office. Throughout December, officers arrested 139 individuals for driving under the influence, which is a 18.8% increase from last year. This is the highest number of DUls arrested during this annual project since 2014.
