Florida mom makes teen son turn himself in for crime

OCALA, Fla. (WFLA) — A 15-year-old boy wanted for armed attempted robbery was brought to Florida deputies to be turned in, by his own mother, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.
On Dec. 17, deputies said a victim was sitting in his car, parked outside the Qwik King convenience store, located in Ocala.

That's when a teen boy reportedly approached the victim and asked for money.
When the victim told him no, the teen pulled down a ski mask and pointed a gun at the victim, demanding money and for him to get out of the car, officials said.
The suspect, who believed the victim to also be armed, fled the scene on a bike.
Following the incident, detectives shared a photo taken from a security camera outside the store.

Officials said the 15-year-old's mother saw the image, recognized the suspect as her son, and brought him to the sheriff's office to turn himself in.
The boy admitted to the crime, saying he knew what he was going to do when he left his house. He also told deputies that the gun he used was a BB gun, and after seeing the image circulating on social media, he got rid of it.
According to deputies, the teen was arrested on a charge of attempted robbery with a firearm and was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
