HAMILTON — The Hamilton Police Division will undergo an assessment for law enforcement accreditation on Monday, January 13, Chief Kenneth R. DeBoskey announced. A team from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) will examine the division’s policies, procedures, management, operations, and support services. “Verification by the team that the Hamilton Police Division meets the Commission’s ‘best practice’ standards is part of a voluntary process to achieve accreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence,” Chief DeBoskey said. The public can comment on the division’s accreditation process by phone at (609) 581-6030 on January 13 between 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., or by email to [email protected]. Phone comments must be limited to 5 minutes. “Accreditation results in greater accountability within the agency, reduced risk and liability exposure, stronger defense against civil lawsuits, increased community advocacy, and more confidence in the agency’s ability to operate efficiently and respond to community needs,” DeBoskey said. NJSACOP Accreditation Program Director Harry J. Delgado explained the process. “The assessment team is composed of law enforcement practitioners from similar New Jersey law enforcement agencies,” Delgado said in a press release. “The assessors will review written materials, interview agency members, and visit offices and other places where compliance with the standards can be observed. Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they will report to the full Commission, which will then decide if the agency is to be granted accredited status.” If granted, the accreditation will remain valid for three years. The division must submit annual reports to maintain compliance with accreditation standards. Written comments about the division’s ability to meet accreditation standards can be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission at 751 Route 73 North, Suite 12 Marlton, N.J. 08053.
