RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC)--Much chillier air will move in today and the big winter storm that is top of everyone’s minds will start bringing us impacts by the end of the weekend. Today will be much cooler with highs in the middle to upper 30s under sunny skies. It will also be windy which will make it feel even cooler when you factor in the wind chill. Clear skies continue overnight and lows will drop to near 20. Tomorrow will start off with fair skies, but the winter storm will start moving in from the west. Clouds will thicken and highs will top out near 40. VIPIR Radar will start to show snow moving into our area by the afternoon, but due to dry air at the surface it will likely evaporate before reaching the ground. We can expect to see snow by the evening hours and will continue into the overnight hours. Most of our weather models show a nose of warm air aloft which will allow snow to mix over to sleet and then freezing rain. Freezing rain will transition from south to north during the morning hours before a break in action. Most of the precipitation looks to be out of the area by Monday afternoon, but on the backside of the storm another round of snow showers looks to move in Monday evening. When all is said and done, this is what we are expecting across the area. Nonetheless this winter storm is going to bring travel impacts Sunday evening into Monday and maybe even beyond with temperatures staying chilly all week. We stay quiet for the week, but our weather models are hinting out storm #2 moving in next weekend.
