ATLANTA (AP) - Six days of funeral observances for former President Jimmy Carter are set to take place in Georgia, where he died on Dec. 29 at the age of 100. The ceremonies beginning Saturday reflect Carter's climb up the political ladder, from the tiny town of Plains, Georgia, to decades on the global stage as a humanitarian and advocate for democracy. The motorcade will travel through Plains, past his boyhood family farm and continue to Atlanta, pausing at the Georgia Capitol where he served as governor. Then he will lie in repose at the Carter Presidential Center, where the public can pay respects before the ceremonies move to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.
