MANOA, Hawaii (KHON2) -- The fourth-ranked University of Hawaii men's volleyball team rallied past No. 20 McKendree in four sets 25-20, 20-25, 25-22 and 25-22, opening their 2025 campaign with a victory in the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

The 'Bows downed McKendree in the first of two matches, continuing the 3-0 streak against the Bearcats since their first meetup in 2017.
UH outside hitters Adrien Roure and Clay Wieter established their dominance offensively. The Frenchman finished with a match-high 17 kills to hit .345, two aces and three digs. Wieter followed behind coming in with an impressive 14 kills, hitting .429.
True freshman Finn Kearney, who wears #11, proved he belongs on the court with seven kills on 12 attempts, five digs and a pair of blocks.
Redshirt Freshman outside hitter Justin Todd held steady at the net, coming in with five blocks to lead the 'Bows.
All-conference setter, sophomore Tread Rosenthal, dished out 54 assists to finish the night.
Offensively, UH dominated in the first frame, slamming 16 kills and three aces to take the set by five.
McKendree pulled away early in the second set with a 5-0 scoring run for an early 10-6 advantage. Both teams eventually went back and forth, but the Bobcats eventually picked up enough momentum to take the frame 25-20 to tie the match.
Though McKendree took control of the third frame early on, a series of blocks by Justin Todd, Clay Wieter and Tread Rosenthal helped tie the match. A service error at set-point secured the lead for the 'Bows.
In the final frame, UH built their momentum early with a 5-0 scoring run. Kearney took the final swing to finalize the match 3-1
Both teams will return to the SimpliFi Arena on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 5 p.m. to finish the series.
