A cold Saturday with upcoming snow chances
Jan 04, 2025
Lake effect snow showers are sticking around early this morning as arctic air continues to flow over Lake Michigan.
Skies are partly cloudy in Fort Wayne and areas south. Thanks to the available clearings under these skies, many, including Fort Wayne, have fallen to the lower teens this morning. Add in some breezy conditions, and wind chills are below zero. You'll want to bundle up today, as wind chills stay in the single digits at best through the day as winds will be windy with gusts up to 30 mph possible. A few areas of blowing snow will be possible. Ice also remains on some roadways, so drive with a little extra caution today.
Our snow shower chances from some lake effect flurries will continue, but by around daybreak, our best snow chances will be reduced to only a slight chance. Temperatures crawl through the teens. We climb into the 20s, and even see more sunshine for the afternoon. More clouds return overnight.
Mid-teens around daybreak.Below-zero wind chills continue around sunrise.Upper teens and a few lingering clouds entering lunchtime.Single digits wind chills as we approach the afternoon.20s are reached in the early PM.Still feeling very cold this afternoon.Highs in the upper 20s today. Some afternoon sunshine as well!Wind chills remain in the single digits in the later afternoon.
We are continuing to monitor an impactful weather system for Indiana Sunday night into Monday. The question still lies on the tracking of this system. We will continue to keep you updated with the latest, but not much has changed since the last snowfall map.
The best chances for snow will be to the south of Fort Wayne, specifically Grant, Blackford, and Jay counties, where 2-4" (monitoring chances for higher amounts) will be possible.
With the uncertainty in this low-pressure system's track comes another uncertainty. The system will have a sharp snow gradient, meaning there will be a large change in snow totals over a short distance. Where this occurs will determine what side of the totals Fort Wayne will see. Currently, the potential still exists for Fort Wayne to get up to 3". However, the best chances will lie in the south. Up to an inch will be possible north of the Fort. Once more, we'll keep you up-to-date when we have more information as this is a dynamic weather system, and even 36 hours out, a lot could change.
Our southern areas will see the most snow, with the greatest uncertainty lying in our central counties.
Temperatures stay cold through this weekend, including the potential snow event, with highs in the 20s. Feels like temperatures will be very cold, in the teens Sunday and Monday.
More below-average temperatures for the upcoming week will continue to bring very cold moments with highs in the 20s through Saturday.
