WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- With the wintery weather forecasted to slam the DMV, Pepco is offering help with the energy bill.
Pepco is offering low-energy savings and efficiency tips to help customers stretch their dollars.
Salting the smart way: How to use winter salt in the DMV
Check your thermostat. Setting the thermostat to 68 degrees can help customers save. For each degree that the thermostat is lowered, you can save up to 5% on heating costs.
Adjust your blinds. Keep your blinds open during the day to capture the heat from the sun and close them at night to keep cold air out.
Install energy-efficient light bulbs. Energy-efficient LED bulbs use up to 75% less energy than standard bulbs.
Insulate your home. Trap escaping air from windows and doors by using caulking or weather-stripping around leaky areas, installing storm windows in winter and sealing off the chimney.
Dust or vacuum radiators. Dust and grime impede the flow of heat.
Maintain home heating equipment. Have your heating equipment serviced periodically by a professional service representative.
