(KRON) -- A pair of cousins in Santa Rosa will spend the rest of their lives in prison after they were both convicted of sexually assaulting young girls, the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office said. Giovany Neftali Barrientos-Perez will serve 500 years to life and Bayron Vasquez will serve 485 years to life. They were convicted of a combined 43 counts of child molestation. “Mr. Barrientos-Perez and Mr. Vasquez engaged in a horrific pattern of conduct that would never have been uncovered without the bravery of the victims," DA Carla Rodriguez said. ‘White man’s world’: Sheriff’s attorney blasts her critics An investigation into the two men began in 2019. An employee at a Santa Rosa school told police that a student reported being sexually assaulted. The Santa Rosa Police Department investigated Barrientos-Perez, Vazquez and a third suspect for years. The assaults happened between 2010 and 2021. All three suspects were arrested in March 2022. Vazquez was charged with molesting four girls and Barrientos-Perez was accused of molesting two. All four victims testified, alleging grooming, manipulation, and sexual abuse. The third suspect resolved her case in 2022 and was sentenced to six years in prison. The guilty verdicts include forcible rape of a child, and at least one victim was younger than 11. Judge Mark Urioste called the case “one of the most terrible set of circumstances” he had seen in his professional career.
