The crash happened at the intersection of Front Street and Washington Avenue in South Philadelphia just after 7 p.m., SEPTA officials said.
The couple was crossing the street when a Route 64 bus was making a turn and slammed right into them as they were in the crosswalk, police told NBC10.
A Philadelphia Police Sgt. was able to remove the man from under the bus with the help of the man’s wife and performed CPR on the man, police said.
The man, identified by police as a 35 year old, was pronounced dead and his wife was taken to a nearby hospital, officials explained. Her condition remains unknown at this time.
Surveillance video from the scene shows the bus traveling northbound on Front Street before turning left onto Washington Avenue.
Both directions of Washington Avenue were shut down as police investigated.
A winter hat and earmuffs from the victim lay on the ground as crime scene tape blocked off the area.
