ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — The family of Warren Thomas Fosque III, a 30-year-old mechanic and father from Horntown, in the northern part of Accomack County, is pleading for justice after he was found fatally shot in a wooded area of New Church last month.
Call about vehicle fire leads to homicide case in Accomack Co.
According to the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a Dec. 15 vehicle fire on Green Hill Road. Upon arrival, they found Fosque suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fosque, known for his passion for cars, was described as a hard worker who dedicated himself to his family. He leaves behind a 10-year-old son, Warren Fosque IV, who shares his father’s love of automobiles.
“IV says he wants to be an engineer,” said Fosque’s mother, Betty Fosque. “His dad would teach him how to change tires and put in motors.”
The loss has devastated the Fosque family, who are no strangers to grief. Betty Fosque said her husband died two years ago, and now IV faces the unimaginable pain of growing up without his father or grandfather.
“I lost my husband two-and-a-half years ago, and the first person I thought about was IV,” she said. “He loved his grandfather, and his grandfather loved him. Now to lose his father … it’s just devastating.”
Betty Fosque recalled her last conversation with Warren Fosque III the day before his death.
“He said, ‘Mom, I’ll call you later.’ Later never came. Later will never come,” she said.
Despite the heartbreak, the family is leaning on their faith as they await answers. Betty Fosque commended the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office for its efforts, but expressed frustration.
“This is just not happening fast enough for me,” she said. “But I do applaud them for what they’ve done and what they’re doing.”
The family’s grief was compounded by the timing of the tragedy, which made this holiday season particularly painful.
“This has been the most devastating Christmas ever,” Betty Fosque said. “My son told me weeks ago, ‘Mom, I’m proud of myself.’ And I told him, ‘Poopsie, I’m proud of you as well.’”
As the family seeks justice, they are also focused on preserving Warren Fosque III's legacy through his son. Betty Fosque hopes the community will remember her son’s kind and hardworking spirit.
“I’m here today, not just for myself and my family, but [also] for other families who have faced these senseless killings,” she said. “The pain, the devastation, the brokenness — it doesn’t end on that day. It lasts for years to come.”
Authorities are urging anyone with information about Warren Fosque III's death to contact the Accomack County Sheriff’s Office.
