DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — A former Desoto County high school basketball coach and youth minister has been accused of sexual battery of a child. Lindsey Whiteside was indicted by a Desoto County grand jury in December. It's believed the victim is a teenage girl. The allegations in the indictment are unsettling, too graphic to describe. Shamekia Golliday has a teenager at Desoto Central High School. She says she's concerned. "I just think that anyone that is an adult should be held accountable for their actions," Golliday said. "These are children. Their minds aren't fully developed yet, so she should be held accountable for her actions. Right is right and wrong is wrong." Whiteside is also a former youth minister at Getwell Church in Hernando. DeSoto County former youth minister, coach indicted on sexual battery charge It's unknown where the alleged act or acts occured, but the indictment states it happened between May and November "at a time when Whiteside was in a position of trust or authority over the child." While Whiteside was indicted in December, she was arrested in November on a sexual battery charge. DeSoto County District Attorney Matthew Barton says this is an outgoing investigation and urges anyone who may have been affected by Whiteside's actions or who may information related to the case to come forward. The serious accusations against the former teacher and youth minister makes Shamekia Golliday glad she has open communication with her son. DeSoto County D.A.’s priorities include illegal alien bounty hunter program, social media ban for kids "Someone maybe touching you inappropriate or saying inappropriate things to you, that should never happen. Always be aware," she said. "It's just not right and you have to have these talks nowadays because you never know where people's minds are." Whiteside is out on bond. No court date has been set in her case.
