(KTLA) - New Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman held a press conference to provide information on Friday's meeting with about 25 family members of Erik and Lyle Menendez. According to a statement released by the relatives before the meeting, they intended to support resentencing the brothers who are currently serving life in prison for the 1989 shotgun murders of their parents in Beverly Hills. "It was a very productive session where they gave me all their thoughts about what should happen in this case," Hochman said in Friday's 4:30 p.m. press conference. Earlier, Hochman opened the presser by reiterating points he made in a November statement, saying that his approach is the same whether it's a "media attention-driven case like the Menendez case or any other type of case." "In the Menendez case in particular, what that has involved is reviewing thousands of pages of confidential prison records to analyze the rehabilitation aspect of resentencing," Hochman specified. Hochman said the thousands of pages to be reviewed and analyzed also include transcripts from two months-long trials and appellate decisions. Hochman said he hasn't made a decision, and that he's still talking to prosecutors and defense attorneys in addition to reviewing pages. “As you're aware, the court has filed its motion for reconsideration and the court ultimately has the final call on whether it wants to reconsider the sentence at all and second if it does want to reconsider what the new sentence should be," said the DA. Family members of the Menendez brothers also spoke publicly after the meeting, saying they want the courts to go further in reducing the brothers' sentences. "This 35-year process has been incredibly traumatizing for us," said Anamaria Baralt, Jose Menendez's niece. "We are very much hoping that we can find a path to manslaughter, that we can see the release of brothers immediately." While Hochman didn't specify further details of his conversation with the family members, he expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with them and said in a later statement that he "will continue to approach this matter with the utmost care and diligence."
